This area is noted for it’s odd weather. One minute we will have gorgeous sunshine and the next it will be cold and rainy or snowing and then a few hours later we go right back to beautiful weather. You would think you would at least have an idea of what to expect weather-wise the first week of December. Right? Nope. Wrong! No one expected temps in the 70’s. Gorgeous skies. Simply put….perfect weather! I especially didn’t expect it since I have been so sick for the last few weeks. (Bronchitis and Scarlet Fever….
yes, Scarlet Fever!
My fascination for old diseases served me well, I knew what it was and what to expect!)
Thinking a little fresh air would be good for me, I pulled myself out of bed, grabbed my camera and went out and captured these shots. I then went home and went right back to bed. I did at least TRY to make myself better, but the Scarlet Fever didn’t really cooperate!
I have told people that next I am going to bring back rickets…or scurvy! lol
Thy soul shall find itself alone 'Mid dark thoughts of the grey tomb-stone; Not one, of all the crowd, to pry Into thine hour of secrecy.
Be silent in that solitude, Which is not loneliness — for then The spirits of the dead, who stood In life before thee, are again In death around thee, and their will Shall overshadow thee; be still.
The night, though clear, shall frown, And the stars shall not look down From their high thrones in the Heaven With light like hope to mortals given, But their red orbs, without beam, To thy weariness shall seem As a burning and a fever Which would cling to thee for ever.
Now are thoughts thou shalt not banish, Now are visions ne'er to vanish; From thy spirit shall they pass No more, like dew-drop from the grass.
The breeze, the breath of God, is still, And the mist upon the hill Shadowy, shadowy, yet unbroken, Is a symbol and a token. How it hangs upon the trees, A mystery of mysteries!
I post a lot of photos of Weeping Angels because I have always been a tad obsessed with collecting angels. Then I discovered a British television show that brought the Weeping Angels into the spotlight. (And please don’t ever write the name of the show as Dr. or Whovians across the world begin to weep.) Well, here you have a fan that is so obsessed with Doctor Who that she wanted her own Weeping Angel photo. And I am always happy to oblige when it ends up being this cool….I love shoots that are thinking outside of the box!
She also loved this alignment of trees and that turned into a perfect photo op as well. These trees were very cool!
But I think one of my favorites ended up being this one…..she loved the trees and said it reminded her of a painting she saw. She wanted it to look like she stepped onto the painting. We accomplished just that…..
These trees are so spectacular and her pink hair just pops up against them! I absolutely love this shot!
“The Lonely Assassins, that’s what they used to be called. No one quite knows where they came from, but they’re as old as the Universe, or very nearly. And they have survived this long because they have the most perfect defence system ever evolved. They are Quantum Locked. They don’t exist when they are being observed. The moment they are seen by any other living creature they freeze into rock. No choice, it’s a fact of their biology. In the sight of any living thing, they literally turn into stone. And you can’t kill a stone. Of course, a stone can’t kill you either, but then you turn your head away. Then you blink. Then, oh yes, it can.”
“That’s why they cover their eyes. They’re not weeping, they can’t risk looking at each other. Their greatest asset is their greatest curse. They can never be seen. Loneliest creatures in the Universe.”
“Fascinating race, the Weeping Angels. The only psychopaths in the universe to kill you nicely. No mess, no fuss, they just zap you into the past and let you live to death. The rest of your life used up and blown away in the blink of an eye. You die in the past, and in the present they consume the energy of all the days you might have had, all your stolen moments. They’re creatures of the abstract. They live off potential energy.”
“The angels are coming for you, but listen, your life could depend on this: don’t blink. Don’t even blink. Blink and you’re dead. They are fast, faster than you could believe. Don’t turn your back, don’t look away, and don’t blink!”
This is the beautiful Carrie. She is a tattoo artist and one of the most amazing people I have ever met. From the first moment I met her I absolutely adored her. She is one of those people who can make anyone feel at ease and have fun wherever she is at and whatever she is doing! I have been trying to get her in front of my camera for a while now and the timing never worked out.
And then a miracle happened…..the stars aligned. Prayers were answered. And she was in front of my camera.
We both love cemeteries and it was very natural for us to do our shoot in one. This cemetery is very old and small. Some of the headstones are so old that they have placed other pieces of granite or concrete behind them to keep them propped up.
We also went into the city to some cool locations and just hung out and shot some images too!
I love shoots where I get to incorporate my love for my friends and my love for photography. Can you tell we had an awesome time?
Maybe this image will show you just how awesome of a time we had……
Love it. Awesome day. Awesome images. Awesome friend.
Carrie, Thanks for the great day and for the wonderful gift of your friendship!
