Snow Day

My kids got out of school early today because of the winter storm headed our way. In a matter of moments we went from not having one bit of snow on the ground to the ground being covered and more snow still falling.

I know I am not the only one out there ready for Spring!

Depths of Winter

I don’t know about where you are, but we are still in the midst of Winter.
I know the calendar has already said it’s Spring and the Groundhog even said we’d have an early one at that, but no, it’s still winter. It’s cold. It keeps snowing. It’s windy. As much as I love creating Winter portraits, I am ready for Spring. For color. For sunshine.
Maybe I need to become one of those people who spend their winters where there is sunshine and warmth. And I guess my camera needs to go with me!

The Journey

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice —
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
“Mend my life!”
each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do —
determined to save
the only life you could save.”

Waiting for Winter

Anyone who really and truly knows me, knows that I am comfortable when it’s 80 degrees. No more, no less. Otherwise, I get cold or hot. But here in STL, we can’t pick our weather, even though it can change several times throughout the day.

I love doing snow photos though. Love it. It’s always fun. The images are great. But it’s never warm….duh.  So, when it snows I just get out there with my camera and my gorgeous models and shoot, shoot, shoot….and then when I get home sit under blankets in my flannel pj’s!

If you haven’t done a snow shoot, you should! You might freeze for a while, but they are soooooooo worth it!
