An Old City

We have accumulated stuff that we hold onto. Whether it’s life experiences, old clothes, photographs of people we don’t know, old letters, things that clutter our homes and our minds.
I save things.
I like old things.
If it is a lot older than I am I will find a special place for it in my home and in my heart.
There are people who say “I love vintage!” but they mean the 50’s or 60’s. My love for all things vintage extends way beyond that time.
I recently came across some old contact sheets. In film photography days you would make a contact sheet of the images from the negatives. But these contact sheets weren’t just ordinary contact sheets. Oh no, they were much more.
They were beautiful. They were magical.
They were Paris in the late 1920’s or early 1930’s.
I fell in love with these images. They made me love vintage even more. They made my soul yearn to fly off to Paris. They made me wish that the scenario in Midnight in Paris could happen.
To step back into Paris during it’s Golden Age.
To be among artists, writers, poets, and some of the most amazing minds.

If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life,

it stays with you,
for Paris is a moveable feast.
~Ernest Hemingway

“But Paris was a very old city and we were young and nothing was simple there, not even poverty, nor sudden money, nor the moonlight, nor right and wrong nor the breathing of someone who lay beside you in the moonlight.”
~Ernest Hemingway
